CSO lobbies Imo Gov. To Reject NJC’s Candidates for Judges.
A foremost civil society group in Imo State has called on the Governor of the State to reject the recently published list of judges recommended by the NJC for the State Judiciary.
The coalition against gender based Violence made the demand on Thursday in a letter to Governor Hope Uzodinma.
In the letter made available to news men, the convener of Onurube; Marjorie Ngozi Ezihe made a very strong case of violation of the Constitution and rules of the National Judicial Council (NJC) which made it mandatory for federal character and geographical spread to be considered in the appointment of judicial officers.
According to the group, facts available shows that there are multiple candidates from same LGA while many other LGAs have none. It further pointed out that Ojiugo Chukwumaeze and Mathew Ijezie are both from Amucha in Njaba LGA while Akowundu Cletus Ndubuisi and Adaego Peace Nosiri are from Mbieri in mbaitoli LGA.
The group also accused the State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice as well as the Chief Judge of the State of openly disgracing the State Governor by undermining his interest as the appointing authority.
Both the Attorney General of the State and the State Chief Judge were said to have removed the best qualified Candidates and replaced them with their Lakeys and girlfriends.
They called on the State Governor to reject the recommendations of the NJC which they claim will occasion gross injustice and inequity in the State.
