Kogi Electrity Regulatory commission (KERC) vows to protect consumers from crazy bills.

Kogi state Electricity Regulatory Commission has assured the people of the state of its commitment to ensure fair and equitable distribution of tarrif to consumers.
The Chairman/CEO of KERC, Engr. Ibrahim Abdwaaris made the disclosure during a stakeholders meeting held on Thursday in Lokoja.
The Chairman noted that the commission which was established by Kogi state government in 2023 has replaced the old Electric Power Sector Reform Act (EPSRA) of 2005.
He said, the Act aimed at modernizing how the electricity industry is regulated, operated and developed.
According to him, Kogi State is one of the first three States that transfer Regulatory Oversight from Nigeria Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) to Kogi Electricity Regulatory Commission to providing fair deal for electricity consumers in the state.
Engr. Abdwaaris explained that KERC is distinct from Kogi Electrity Distribution Limited (KEDL) but a regulator to protect both the consumers and the service providers.
He further emphasized that Kogi Electricity Regulatory commission does not distribute Electricity but to ensure that the energy that comes to the consumers are safe , quality and stable.
He assured that the Commission (KERC) is already collaborating with KEDL to ensure a fair tariff that guarantee consumers to pay bill that commensurate to the electricity they consume.
He added that the establishment of KERC by the state government is a giant step towards strengthening the electricity market in the State
