Gunmen believed to be Fulani herders have killed a vigilante member, Nasiru Ulayi , while dozens of residents fled to nearby villages with various degrees of injuries.
The attack which occured at about 3:30 pm on Tuesday may 5 2026 at Oganenigu , Edede and OjiApata communities in the suburbs of Dekina local Government of kogi state has left dozens with gunshot and machete wounds while many residential houses were torched or completely razed down by the rampaging marauders.
Speaking to our correspondent, a youth leader from the community, Honourable Aaron, said, the attack took the residents unawares as there was no early warning signal of misunderstanding with the fulaniherdsmen hibernating in the surrounding forests
He said, the herders who stormed the communities with staccato of gunshots, over powered the vigilante members who put up stiff resistance in the defence of their ancestral home,, however, Nasiru Ulayi paid supreme price while others escaped by the whiskers,
The youth leader decried the incessant attack by herders whose actions have turned the villages into a ghost town as survivors fled in different directions to safety.
He disclosed that unconfirm report has it that the attackers may be heading to some villages on the fringes with Omala Local Government Area of the state.
He called on the State Government and security Agencies to come to the aid of the Communities as the attack was one too many.
