The Igala Cultural and Development Association (ICDA) has received with deep concern and grave apprehension reports of violent clashes and attacks affecting Ebeje community and neighbouring areas involving suspected Fulani herders.
The ICDA strongly condemns every act of violence, bloodshed, destruction of property, and threat to the peace and safety of innocent citizens within the affected communities. The continuous security challenges in parts of Igala land remain unacceptable and demand urgent and decisive intervention from relevant authorities.
Following the disturbing development, the leadership of the ICDA has immediately established contact with relevant security agencies and critical stakeholders on the matter. We have received firm assurances from the security authorities that adequate measures are being taken to restore peace, law, and order in the affected communities and to prevent further escalation of the situation.
The ICDA therefore calls on residents of Ebeje and surrounding communities to remain calm, vigilant, and law-abiding despite the provocation and tension occasioned by these unfortunate incidents. We strongly advise members of the public to cooperate fully with security agencies and promptly report any suspicious movement, threat, or security breach to the appropriate authorities.
While we acknowledge the pains, fears, and losses suffered by our people, we urge all affected persons and youths to avoid taking the law into their hands or engaging in reprisals capable of worsening the situation.
The ICDA deeply sympathises with victims of the attacks, families who have suffered losses, and all those displaced or traumatised by the unfortunate events. Our thoughts and prayers are with the affected communities during this difficult time.
The Association remains committed to the protection of the lives, dignity, and collective interests of the Igala people and will continue to engage relevant authorities until lasting peace and security are fully restored in the area.
We call on government at all levels and security agencies to act swiftly and decisively to safeguard lives and property and ensure that perpetrators of criminal acts are identified and brought to justice.
Signed:
