Abejide Sweeps All 34 Wards in Yagba APC Reps Primary
Rep. Leke Abejide has secured a landslide victory in the All Progressives Congress primary for Yagba Federal Constituency, winning across all 34 wards in Yagba East, Yagba West, and Mopamuro Local Government Areas.
The direct primary held Saturday saw massive turnout of APC members who turned out to elect their candidate for the House of Representatives seat.
Results collated from the three LGAs showed overwhelming support for the incumbent lawmaker, with party officials and observers describing the outcome as unprecedented.
The exercise was conducted peacefully across the constituency, with many describing it as one of the most transparent internal elections in the area in recent years.
The large turnout and orderly process, they said, reinforced confidence in the direct primary system as a true reflection of party members’ choice.
Speaking after voting at Takete Ide/Otafun Ward in Mopamuro LGA, Kogi State Commissioner for Information and Communications, Hon Kingsley Femi Fanwo, commended the conduct of party members.
“You can see how excited party members are to exercise their rights to nominate candidates of the party for the general elections. It was hitch free, free and fair across Mopamuro Local Government Area,” he said.
Fanwo cited results from his ward where Abejide scored 892 votes to his challenger’s 2 votes, noting the same trend played out across Mopamuro’s 10 wards.
“Our party members have spoken and their voices have been respected,” he added.
Party leaders in Yagba East and Yagba West attributed the result to Abejide’s grassroots engagement and visible representation.
Hon. Emmanuel Obaro of Yagba East called it “a reward for impactful representation and sustained grassroots engagement,” while stakeholders in Yagba West said the margin reflected both party unity and the lawmaker’s popularity.
“This is beyond politics. The people have spoken loudly through the ballot.
“The turnout and results across the wards show that Rt Hon. Leke Abejide enjoys widespread support because of his performance and accessibility to the people,” a party official in Yagba West stated.
With results from all 34 wards now in, Abejide’s position as APC candidate for Yagba Federal Constituency in the forthcoming general elections is firmly consolidated.
Party members who monitored the exercise praised the peaceful conduct of supporters and officials, expressing optimism that the APC would head into the polls stronger and more united.
