NCC commends Tijani’s efforts to boost girls’ digital skills
The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has commended the Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Bosun Tijani, for initiatives aimed at improving digital skills among Nigerian girls.
The commendation was made during activities marking the 2026 National Girls in ICT Programme, a global initiative adapted locally to encourage the participation of girls in information and communication technology (ICT).
As part of the programme, 185 female students visited the NCC Museum in Abuja, where they were introduced to the history and development of Nigeria’s telecommunications sector.
According to the Commission, the tour was designed to provide participants with practical insights into the country’s telecoms evolution and inspire interest in technology-driven careers.
The NCC said the initiative aligns with broader national efforts to deepen digital inclusion and address the gender gap in ICT by equipping young girls with relevant skills.
Experts have consistently highlighted the need for targeted interventions to increase female participation in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM), noting that early exposure plays a critical role in shaping career choices.
The National Girls in ICT Programme is part of ongoing strategies by government and industry stakeholders to build a more inclusive digital economy in Nigeria.
