Death, a necessary end will always come unannounced. It may sound warning through ailments, old age or through other means approved by the creator. However, when it knocked the door, no matter often, the mortal man get bewildered. It could come as the end to human dispair. It could come to save the future tragedies. No matter the style of its coming, homosapiens are left to weep.
Death has been our companion. It lives with us, but unfortunately we mistook her for tragedies. It leaves hollows in our lives. It comes with unforgettable imprints- that marks eternity. It leaves memory of good or bad in the hearts.
To my father -inlaw, a father like no others. He left without bading farewell. He has a lot to add to my life. He would have loved to engage me as usual in a forlorn gists, as usual, but those gists would remain with him forever. He would have been a successful content creator, if he lived in our generation. He was a story teller per excellent. Opportunity with him, will savour your days.
There was this day, at the time I was seeking the hand of her daughter in marriage. My relationship with the daughter was divine. I have had series of relationship upset. As a young man in Lagos life was sumptuous. Life was benignt, just like LG electronics slogan, like is good.
Chicks at one beck and call, but with attendance tragedies.I was a star in my world, until I was beaten with relationship serpent.
When I came to my senses, I ponder coming home for a damsel. It was on the journey down home that my destiny changed. I met his daughter unannounced. The long story is short now, as we are set to mark 30 years anniversary.
Back to what he told me jocularly in a gist the first day I knocked his door. I haven’t met him before and I’m not from his town. A bush man from a predominantly non Igala speakers. So it will be strange for his people to accept some one from such a distance as an in-law. But he proved them wrong. When I told him , I was from Bagana, a boisterous town on the bank of river Benue, his family laughed in derision. They swore to have nothing to do with me. They warned him not to sell his daughter to unknown place. He stood his ground, with one question – Are you a Christian – and I affirmed. His response was ecclesiastical- if it is God who is he to oppose it.
The story of my past relationships misfortune was a tonic for me not to allow this opportunity slip through my fingers. I became more determined. And with every passing months, the fire of marriage was in front burner.
Alas, when the family saw my alacrity, they enthused with songs of sales. The songs of his selling the daughter to unknown person was in their lips. When I told him , I want the marriage done on time , He laughed. He bought my idea. He told me a proverb that , “Not how long a man spent on the farm , that determine the depth of work done”. He prodded me on. And between April and October we were through. The relationship has survive 30 years and counting with bountiful fruits to show
My father -inlaw was more than a father. He was my prayer warrior. A confidant and a man imbued with faith,, which translated to me.
When his passing on the 5 July 2026 , happily on Sunday, was communicated to me, instead of crying, I burst into laughter. His past gists was bottomline for the laughs . I will forever missed his gist.He lived a fulfilled life and  transitioned  at an accomplished age of  90 years. He has finished his assignment here . He is now at the right bosom of our lord Jesus Christ. I urge him to  Keep invoking the spirit of the Holy Ghost for his children, grand and great grand children until we meet to part no more. Adieu.
