The Kogi State Chapter of the African Democratic Congress has strongly and unequivocally condemned the barbaric, cowardly and unwarranted violent attacks unleashed on its loyal party members in Kogi Local Government Area saying reports reaching us indicate that our members were brutally attacked, harassed and injured while carrying out their legitimate and constitutionally guaranteed political activities.
The statement by the state chairman of the party Hon Tom Zakari particularly noted that this act of political thuggery and intolerance is not only an attack on the ADC family but an attack on democracy itself.
The statement categorically explained that:
1. The ADC is a peaceful and law-abiding party. We will not be intimidated or cowed into silence by violence.
2. No amount of thuggery will stop the will of the people. The people of Kogi LGA have chosen the ADC as their party of hope, and no attack can reverse that.
3. We call on the Nigeria Police Force, the Department of State Services (DSS), and all relevant security agencies in Kogi State to immediately investigate these attacks, arrest the perpetrators and their sponsors, and bring them to justice.
It also called on the Kogi State Government and the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC to ensure a level playing field and guarantee the safety of all political actors regardless of party affiliation.
Hon Tom Zakari assured that members of the party stand in solidarity with their injured members and affected families stressing that we have directed our legal team to document all incidents and we will pursue all lawful means to seek justice.
He noted ADC remains committed to a peaceful, issue-based campaign and urged all their members in Kogi LGA and across the state to remain calm, remain law-abiding, and not retaliate.
The ADC Chairman who recalled how members of the party were recently attacked in Ejule,Ofu Local Government Area. however warned that enough is enough pointing out that Democracy must be allowed to thrive
