The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Kogi State Command, has secured the conviction of a transformer cable vandal, Mr Akoji Jonah, who was sentenced to five years’ imprisonment by the Federal High Court in Lokoja.
The judgment was delivered on Monday, October 19, 2026, by Justice Judith N. Binjin-Eigege of Federal High Court 2, after the court found Jonah guilty of vandalising armoured transformer cables belonging to Kogi State Electricity Development Limited (KEDL) at Biraidu Community in Dekina Local Government Area of the state.
The conviction followed his prosecution on charges relating to the vandalism of critical electricity infrastructure and economic sabotage under applicable laws.
Reacting to the judgment, the Kogi State Commandant of the NSCDC, Aletan Olumide Ebenezer, commended the Command’s Legal Unit, led by its Officer-in-Charge, DCC Ike F. Ugochukwu, for its diligence and professionalism in prosecuting the case.
Ebenezer attributed the successful prosecution to effective investigation and intelligence gathering by the Command’s personnel, which he said provided the necessary support for the legal team.
He described the judgment as a strong deterrent to individuals and groups involved in vandalising public utilities and other Critical National Assets and Infrastructure (CNAI).
The commandant reaffirmed the corps’ commitment to protecting national infrastructure and ensuring that those responsible for vandalism and other acts of economic sabotage are brought to justice.
He also warned criminal elements to desist from activities capable of disrupting electricity supply, hindering economic development and threatening public safety.
According to him, the command will sustain its intelligence-driven operations to rid Kogi State of vandals and other economic saboteurs.
The NSCDC urged members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities around electricity installations and other critical infrastructure to the appropriate security agencies.
The command reiterated its resolve to protect lives, property and critical national assets and infrastructure across Kogi State.
