Flooding : Don’t take Risk, move to High ground, SSA on Public Safety, Hon. Yusuf  advises Residents on Flood prone Areas in Kogi.

Against the backdrop of   nonchalant attitude of some residents on flood prone areas to neglect the warning alerts by Nimet and other agencies saddled  with weather forecast, the Senior Special Assistant to Governor Ododo SSA on Public Safety has advised the people to adhere strictly to the flood  predictions  and move to safer place to avoid being trapped.
The SSA, Hon. Daniel Achogba Yusuf gave the advice in a world Press conference held on Wednesday in Lokoja to sensitise the people against putting their lives and property in jeopardy.
Hon. Yusuf noted that based on the flood fury in some parts of the country with devastating consequences on the livelihoods of the people, the people of kogi, especially those in Nine Local Government Areas prone to flooding should in their interest and humanity move to safe environment before its occurrence..
He wonder why , the people should always treat information from the government with levity, saying those actions have brought untold hardships on them in the past.
He advised them to make adequate preparations for their temporary relocation, as Government is working hard to ensure that adequate provisions and protection are ensured for them.
” The relevant Agencies of Federal Government have given alerts that kogi and other states are likely to be affected by flood. The kogi state has been up and doing to mitigate the flood. The Government has embarked on aggressive sensitisation to ensure that the people are adequately informed of the impending dangers.  The Government has upped it’s preparedness to combat  eventualities, but it is better not to be caught in the web.
” It is my sincere appeal to all those who are on the flood zone to start moving to the high grounds. What is happening in Borno, Jigawa , Adamawa infact north East and West is nothing to be  experienced.  We were told that many of the victims took the warning with pint of salt until they were hard hit. I don’t want that to happen here , hence , my clarion calls for them to heed to the voice of reasons and start making preparations to move to safe environment.
* By my observation, the water level is increasing exponentially. We don’t know, when it will reach a dangerous level, but, my candid appeal is to consider safety first before any other considerations. I know it is not easy to move belongings to another place. It is discomforting , but it is better to be alive than the discomfort. ” He said
He however Commended Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo for investing heavily in mitigating the flood as all relevant agencies in the state have been adequately strengthened to square up  the eventualities.
