A victim of rainstorm, Mr Olusegun Femi Taiwo , wife and two children have appealed to Gov. Ahmed Usman Ododo, chairman, Yagba East LGA, Non Governmental Organizations and well-meaning individuals to come to his aid to repair his destroyed property.
Mr Olusegun Taiwo made the appeal on Sunday in Lokoja amid sobbing and depression, while urging Nigerians to save his family from incessant attack by snakes and other rodents at his new refuge in an uncompleted building
Narrating the incident that has rendered them homeless, he said, on the 27 April 2026, he left home to where he is working as a photographer, to eke a living for the family, however, not quite long the wife called to inform him, that the heavy downpour occasioned with storms have removed the roof completely and submerged the building.
He said on the receipt of the unpalatable news, he raced to the house only to meet all his property inside water and to evacuate the family and some of the items in the building that were not washed away.
He said,  faced with the reality of life, he has to park his remaining property and family to under a tree as shelter for three days and three Nights until a good Samaritan offered him an uncompleted building.
Taiwo, noted that although the property offered temporary reliefs, but with attendant dangers as they have become neighbors to snakes and other dangerous creeping creatures.
He disclosed that their new abode has only roof, but no windows, doors , floor not plated and filled with debris making them susceptible to snakes and other dangerous creatures.
According to him, ” The storm washed  away the only mattress the family had. We sleep on bare floor. We don’t have light in the building we make use of lanterns. It is a horrible experience. We have killed over seven big snakes since we relocated to this place. Sometimes, while sleeping snakes would climb on us, but glory to God , we have been able to kill them.
” I’m a photographer trying to survive. The business is lull now. Through hard savings and loans I was able to put up the building. I’m still servicing the loans and debts. My two children of 4 and 10 years old have been driven from school. To feed is a challenge and now we have no roof over our heads. We live behind NEPA Zango Daji near Army barracks Lokoja.” He lamented.
He bemoaned that beside the condition of the new abode, the owner of the building has given him quit notice and with the high rent  fees in Lokoja,  depression has hit him like thunderbolt, appealing for financial assistance to save the family from untimely deaths.
Taiwo, a native of Ife Olukotun, in Yagba East LGA is undergoing terrible and horrible condition of life, with little helps from government of kogi state, Yagba East, NGOs and philanthropic Nigerians , he can be reintegrated to the society.
