The Lokoja Local Government Traditional Council has called on the Lokoja Local Government Chairman and relevant authorities to immediately halt the proposed coronation of one Alhaji Suleiman Musa Aiga as the purported “Ohinoyi of Egbura Lokoja.”
In a statement issued by the Secretary Alhaji Makarfi Usman for His Royal Highness, Alhaji Ibrahim Gambo Kabir, the Maigari of Lokoja, and made available to Journalists in Lokoja on Tuesday said its attention had been drawn to a public notice circulating on social media announcing the coronation ceremony scheduled to take place at the Muhammadu Buhari Square, Lokoja, on 28 June 2026.
The Council stated that the Maigari of Lokoja neither appointed nor approved the appointment of any individual to the position of “Ohinoyi of Egbura Lokoja.”
According to the statement, the proposed coronation is inconsistent with the established laws, customs, and traditions governing the Lokoja Traditional Council and its recognized traditional institutions. The Council further noted that the planned event constitutes a challenge to the authority of the traditional institution in Lokoja and has caused concern among the Maigari and members of the Traditional Council.
The Council therefore appealed to the Chairman of Lokoja Local Government and other relevant authorities to take necessary steps to stop the proposed event in order to safeguard public peace, maintain law and order, and preserve the harmony for which Lokoja is known.
The statement emphasized the Council’s commitment to peaceful coexistence and respect for lawful traditional processes, while expressing confidence that the authorities would act promptly to address the matter in the interest of peace and stability.
