* Vows to rescue remaining victims.
As the frantic search for the rescue of the abducted students writing NECO exams continues, the kogi police command have blamed the principal and NECO official for taking some selected students to a remote, abandoned and isolated property to write the examination.
The commissioner of Police, CP Naziru Kankarofi made the disclosure on Wednesday during press briefing on the circumstances leading to the abduction of the students.
The CP noted that the property being used for the examination was neither accredited by the examination body nor was it approved by the state government for public examinations.
He said the principal, Solomon Audu and the NECO official, Daniel Iya, for the reasons best known to them took some selected students of about ten to a remote, isolated and abandoned part of the school for the examination.
He disclosed that around 15.30 hours the gunmen attacked and abducted four students, the principal and the purported NECO official, saying on receipt of the news , he mobilized his men and other security personnel to crackdown on the criminals.
He added that the operation led to the rescue of two students, while efforts being intensified for the rescue of the remaining two students, principal and NECO official.
He said , the intelligence reveals that the gunmen had made contacts with the relatives of the principal and are making demand of ten million naira in ransom.
He however noted that given the security situation in the state, the government had agreed with school management and administrators to assemble students in safer location to prevent this ugly incident, but the principal with his accomplice decided to converge some students on an isolated, remote and abandoned part of the school for the examination.
He added that the principal for best reasons known to him, flouted the directives and moved the students to a location that the government and the security agencies were are not aware off which may have given the gunmen free access to strike.
He assured that the the remaining persons will be rescued , hinting that their cells have been identified and already on their trail.
Kankarofi explained that this incident remained isolated, just like that of Iluke and he is confident that the security agencies have the capacity to repel and rescue the remaining victims
He assured the families and members of the public that with the effort of Inspector General of Police IG Tunde Disu and government of kogi state, the force have begun intensifying surveillance to all communities where this examination is taking place to making sure that this type of attack will not be allowed to happen again.
He warned that no students should be allowed to write examinations in an isolated, remote and unaccredited centres , saying these attitude of the principal and NECO official made the students vulnerable to the attack.
He hinted that no other students were attacked , except the ten that were warehoused in this abandoned part of the school, alleging that the action of the principal has ulterior motives.
According to him,, if they decided to write examinations in secluded location, where there are no security, for reasons known to them, they should expect consequences of their actions, saying, unfortunately the consequences have broader effect on the image of the country, portraying to the outside world that Nigeria cannot secure herself.
He lamented that the enemies of the Nation always want to capitalize on this isolated incident to project the country in bad light, warning those who will indulge in this activities to stop or ready to be prosecuted
He once again assured that, since the lead has been established with the gunmen opening line of communication with families of the victims, the police and other sister security agencies are working assiduously for the safe rescue of the remaining two students, principal and NECO official sooner than expected.
