Prof. Umuerri appointment as Provost a round peg in round hole DUMSAA
The appointment of Professor Ejiroghene Umuerri as provost, Delta State University Abraka college of Health Sciences has been described as a round peg in a round hole.
The Delta state University of Medical School Alumni Association (DUMSAA), gave the assement in a statement made available to Journalists on Thursday in Lokoja, kogi state.
The statement signed by the President of the Association Dr. Kennedy Oberhiri Obohwemu, warmly felicitates with Prof. Ejiroghene Martha Umuerri on her well-deserved victory and historic emergence as Provost, College of Health Sciences, Delta State University, Abraka.
Obehwemu said the emergence of Prof. Umuerri has written her name in the annals of the institution, becoming the first female Provost in the history of the College of Health Sciences.
“Prof. Umuerri’s appointment to this distinguished and prestigious position is a fitting recognition of her exceptional leadership qualities, unwavering dedication to medical education, and her sustained commitment to excellence in health sciences.
“Her emergence brings immense pride to the entire DUMSAA family. As an Honorary Member and now, by virtue of her election, statutory Patron of DUMSAA, her ascent to this esteemed office is a moment of double celebration for the association.
“It is particularly gratifying that Prof. Umuerri served as the Guest Speaker at DUMSAA’s 2025 Virtual Annual General Meeting (AGM), where her incisive insights, visionary thinking, and commanding presence left an indelible mark on all who participated across the virtual space. That appearance before her alma mater’s alumni body now takes on an even greater significance, coming as it did on the eve of her ascent to one of the most important academic and administrative offices in Delta State University.
“As she assumes this pivotal role, DUMSAA is confident that Prof. Umuerri will bring the same passion, vision, and intellectual rigour that have defined her illustrious career to bear on the College of Health Sciences, further elevating its standards and advancing the cause of health education in Delta State and beyond.
“When Prof. Umuerri joined us at our 2025 Annual General Meeting as our Distinguished Guest Speaker, those of us privileged to be part of that session witnessed something special. Here was a woman of extraordinary brilliance, deep conviction, and rare grace, speaking with the authority of someone who had given her life to the advancement of health sciences and medical education. when news broke of her emergence as the first female Provost in the history of the College of Health Sciences it was not a surprise to us.
