The Kogi State Police Command wishes to inform the public that joint security forces have rescued all twenty-one (21) persons abducted in Ofu Local Government Area of Kogi State, including fifteen (15) members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).
Following the earlier rescue of ten Corps Members from the Egume Forest, sustained, intelligence-led operations by personnel of the Nigeria Police Force, Military, Department of State Services (DSS), and other supporting security and auxiliary forces led to the rescue of the remaining victims within the Egume axis and adjoining forests. The sustained pressure mounted on the criminal elements compelled them to abandon the victims and flee the area.
The rescued persons are receiving necessary medical attention and are being debriefed. One victim who sustained a gunshot injury to the right leg is receiving treatment, while no fatality was recorded during the rescue operation.
The Commissioner of Police, Kogi State Command, CP Naziru Bello Kankarofi, psc, mni, commends the gallantry, professionalism, and resilience of all personnel involved in the operation. He also appreciates residents of the affected communities for their cooperation and timely provision of credible information, which contributed to the success of the rescue effort.
The Command assures the public that operations are ongoing to apprehend the perpetrators and bring them to justice. Members of the public are urged to remain calm, vigilant, and refrain from circulating unverified information capable of compromising security operations.
