The kogi state police command has pledged sustained mutual working relationship between the members of Correspondents Chapel of NUJ in order to strengthen the fight against crime and criminality in the state.
The Commissioner of police CP Naziru Kankarofi made the commitment on Thursday when he hosted members of the Correspondents Chapel to a launch in his office in Lokoja.
Kankarofi who could not hide his joy for the visit, said , the Press as an important bridge between the people and the police , should not be underestimated as it could make or Mar any organization including the police .
The CP noted that as a commissioner, with knack for success, he would not toy with the press , hence , the invitation to bring together his Management team and the chapel in a relax atmosphere to discuss issues relating to the two organisations .
He said the cooperation of the media with his office has ensured his successful fight against hoodlums and criminals who would want to make lives unbearable for the residents and those crisscrossing the state
He commended the chapel for standing by him since he assumed office almost a year ago and promise not to take the privilege for granted.
He added that he will ensure an open door policy that gives the press latitude of freedom to contact his office on issues relating to operations of the force and even on personal concerns.
He added that his long standing relationship with the press has opened many doors for him, saying , some of his immediate family who are journalists and its allied profession has made it imperative for his interest in the job.
While thanking the chapel for honouring the invitation, craved for the sustenance of the relationship that will transcends beyond his stay in the state.
On the preparedness of the command for the coming elections, the CP has this to say ” the election is going to hold and we are prepared, we have mapped out our strategies, and all other Agencies in the state are also going to join us under the platform of the Interagency Consultative Committee on Election Security. We are ready and we are good to go. Everything is ready and we look forward to having a more peaceful and credible elections” He assured
Earlier, the chairman of the Correspondents Chapel, Comrade Segun Salami commended the CP for his meticulous relationship with the media , especially his Union , which has made it simple for his members for crime reportage in the state.
He pledge unalloyed relationship with the command as partners to have a kogi state free of violent and sundry crime and criminality.
Highlights of the occasion was entertainment of different spices of menus and wines as jokes and banters took center stage.
