Gender Based Violence has no Justification – Hon. Nasir Ohaini, Kogi SDG Boss.

Following increasing cases of Gender Based Violence and other issues affecting vulnerable populations in Nigeria, especially women and girl child,
Nigerians have been asked to see Gender Base Violence as a rights violation that has no justification.
The Special Adviser, Kogi State Sustainable Development Goals, Hon. Nasir Ohaini made the disclosure on Thursday at project Inception Meeting for Ending Gender Base Violence in Lokoja in Kogi State.
He described gender equality as an opportunity to explore the potentials of reducing gender base violence.
The project Inception Meeting for Ending Gender Base Violence in Kogi State was organized by Chachavivi Women and Girl Child Development Foundation in partnership with Nigerian Women Trust Fund, with funding by Ford Foundation is geared towards ending GBV in the State
Chachavivi Women and Girl Child Development Foundation is a nonprofit organisation, has continued to use the meeting to advocate and engage with duty bearers on the need to uphold their dignity and welfare.
The Special Adviser disclosed that the SDG in the State is very committed to fighting GBV in the State, decried the increase rate of violence in the society, pointing out that GBV is now no longer associated to women alone, but children, teenagers, men are now victims.
The Special Adviser opined out that GBV in recent times is no longer limited to the women folks alone, described increase rate of violence against children, men as becoming a source of worries.
Hon. Nasir Ohaini called on parents and care givers to get acquinted to the new dimensions of GBV, urged them to be more vigilant as violence comes in different forms.
The Special Adviser pointed out that the negative impact of GBV in the society, calls for all hands to be on deck, expressed the commitment of the Kogi State SDG to fighting GBV through awareness creation and other forms of engagement.
Also speaking, the Representatives of the Kogi State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Hajia Fatima Buba, condemned all forms of Gender Based Violence.
While condemning of all forms of violence in the society, assured of the support of the State Government in fighting GBV.
Earlier in his welcome remarks, the Project Coordinator, Chachavivi Women and Girl Child Development Foundation (CCWGDF),
Solomon Umar, said the program aimed at preventing and responding to GBV, as well as helping to strengthen and show support to systems towards enabling them respond and prevent GBV.
While disclosing that the project also aims at building capacity of relevant stakeholders against GBV, said through training of citizens and communities, the project would be implemented in three LGAs of Kogi, Adavi and Igalamela, which would come to an end in February 2023.
The program according to the Project Coordinator, through awareness creation, capacity building, media engagement, gender analysis, effective functional system, increase citizens knowledge, will strive towards ensuring reduction of GBV.
The project inception meeting is one efforts by Chachavivi Women and Girl child development foundation to curb GBV. Chachavivi is legally registered with corporate office in lokoja Kogi.
The inception meeting was attended by the Kogi State Commissioner of Police, Traditional and Religious leaders, amongst other several participants.
