“Bags Assembly Press Corps’ Award for outstanding lawmaker with highest number of bills , Empowerment

The Member Representing Igalamela/ Odolu Constituency in Kogi state House of Assembly, Barrister Cosmos Atabor has disclosed that his bills and motions are targeting at creating prosperity and improvement of standard of living of his constituents.
The Lawmaker made the disclosure on Thursday at the Kogi state Press Corps’ award presentation to some members of the 7th Assembly in Lokoja.
Atabor who was bestowed with the award of the ” Outstanding Lawmaker with highest number of bills with empowerment, said, he was determined from onset to properly represent his constituency.
He noted that he came to the House with the zeal and determination to make a mark and ensure that burden of poverty and underdevelopment on the Constituency is drastically reduced through number of bills that will target creating empowerment for the people.
He said as a lawyer , he was aware that there was no functional law guiding magistracy and other laws that needs amendment and repealing, thus , he started by making bills and motions to address these lapses .
He added that his bills were essentially targeted at creating a prosperous, just and egalitarian society for the entire state, Nigeria, and the world.
On the issue of legislature and Executive relationship, he explained that the cordial relationship between the two arms has been beneficial to the citizenry as it has brought about functional development across all the spectrum of the state.
He denied the insinuation that the Assembly has been cowed by the Executive, saying the Executive has the mind set for the development of the state, just like the legislature hence , being on the same page has bridged the gap that would have created friction.
According to the lawmaker,” The fact of the matter is that we have mutual respect for each other. We also realised that the Executive is also willing to bring out better laws for the state. I must commend them, because this is an Executive that has sent the highest number of Executive Bills to the House for passage.
” The issue is not being coarced , the relationship is one of respect, as we realised that the kogi , Nigeria and the world at large are experiencing harsh economic situation. As responsible lawmakers, we realised that there was no need for quarrels or antagonism, since , the Executive is trying its best through people oriented bills and motions.
” For example, the 55km road from Idah to Agbeji, the Sixth Assembly moved the motion and within two weeks the contractor was mobilised to site. And when we came back for the seventh Assembly, we again moved motion for its completion and within four weeks , it was completed. So why should there be quarrels and unnecessary antagonism.” He explained.
While urging the electorate to support the present Administration of Alhaji Yahaya Bello for the delivery of dividend of Democracy, called on the people to still vote for all the candidates of the APC in the 2023 general elections.
Atabor, however commended the members of the kogi state Assembly Press Corps for the award bestowed on him and promise not to rest on his oars untill the people gets full value for their choice of electing him twice into the state Assembly.
