The Kogi State House of Assembly has called for the immediate disbandment of hybrid vigilante groups identified as Miyetti Allah following a violent clash in Kupa District of Lokoja Local Government Area that reportedly left at least 12 people dead and several others injured.
The Assembly also appealed to the National Security Adviser (NSA) to order the withdrawal and disbandment of the groups allegedly comprising Fulani herders operating as vigilantes in Lokoja LGA, as well as facilitate the recovery of firearms reportedly in their possession.
The resolutions were reached after the Speaker of the House and member representing Lokoja I State Constituency, Hon. Aliyu Yusuf, presented a motion of urgent public importance during Tuesday’s plenary.
The lawmakers called for urgent action to prevent further violence and restore peace in the affected communities.
