Saturday 22 , 2026 was like any ordinary day, but to the family of Paul Adams Shaibu, it was a day never to be dawned. It was a day that their bread winner left in the morning to hussle for money that will sustain them for the weekend.
Alas, the lovely hugs and banters they exchanged after their usual morning devotion, would be the last joyous moment the family will ever have together with him.
Adams as he is fondly called by children and friends, left the home early in the morning without the premonition of what was lurking in wait for him on the road.
As his itinerary was, he will take off from his house in Gidan Diya, Wada Road at the outskirt of Ganaja village in Lokoja, picks Passengers to Felele through crusher end and detour to zone 8 and then goes rounds in circle untill he would have made enough money to return home to the ambience of his family with jubilant voices ” daddy welcome, what have you bought for us, will rent into the air.
Adams Shaibu , who hails from Echekwu in Bassa Local Government Area, was on this fateful day, couldn’t complete the circle as unexpected happened and his ambition, aspirations and love for the family was shattered.
Shaibu who had stopped at the zone 8 junction to pick up a passenger was struck with a heavy sling stone thrown intermittently by some miscreants , masquerading as toll gate taskforce who were pursuing a truck driver who allegedly did not stop when it was flagged down to pay toll fees .
According to the Wife , Mrs Agnes Adams Shaibu amid weeping, said, her beloved was hit on the skull by the stray stones and died instantly.
She narrated that , a mechanic at the scene of the unfortunate incident mobilized some Keke members who rushed him to the Federal Teaching Hospital Lokoja but all efforts by the medical personnel to stabilize him proved unsuccessful as he was declared dead .
She added that the frantic efforts of the members of Keke Riders Union paid off with the arrest of the culprits and were subsequently taken to B’ Division and on interrogation confessed to the crime.
She added that It was the mechanic who launched search party to locate the family as he had no any means of identification on him at the time the accident occured.
Mrs Shaibu disclosed that although, the two people arrested in connection with the killing, had confessed to the crime , had allegedly introduced twist to the matter that they actually hauled stone on him, but it was the truck driver that actually knocked him down to death, a twist that the police has ordered for autopsy to unravel the killing, a twist that she is urging authorities to handle with keen interest.
According to the widow , her children, Reigns age 17, Leader 15 and Onuh 12 are about to have their education truncated if the state government and spirited individuals does not come to the assistance as the father left nothing behind to sustain them.
” My first son, Reigns is waiting for his admission into Federal University Lokoja, the second child, Leader, is expected to write his Waec examinations next academic year, while the last Onuh would be entering SSS1 next session . My husband has nobody to look after us. He had lost his father and mother long time ago and he is the only one the families look unto.
” My husband is an easy going personality. A family man per excellence. He can do everything for the sake of the welfare and well-being of the family. He doesn’t joke with their education . After our usual morning devotion, he will dress up, and wait for us to dress up to take us to the school where I’m a managing as teacher in private school, with meagre salary not good enough to pay for transportation fare for a month. My fears now is how are we going to cope now that he has gone.
” He has no savings at the time he died. Infact what made him to go out that day was for him to hussle for money that will sustain the family for Sunday as he usually not operate on Sundays, and unfortunately that was his last day with the family he cherish most.” She lamented.
While soliciting for justice for her husband and helps for the children to continue with their education, stressed that the family has been surviving on food items donated by neighbors and some good Samaritans.
