Neophyte; Niger court orders remand of primary school teacher.

Niger state chief magistrate court five sitting in chanchanga , Minna has ordered the remand of a class teacher at Minna correctional center for sexually abusing 13 pupils of Primary School in Borgu local Government area of Niger state.

The Teacher identity as Alhaji Usman Galdima was brought to the court on thirteen count charges involving primary school pupils range between the ages of eight and ten years.

Alhaji Usman Galdima a Primary school Teacher was arreigned on the offence of unlawful sexual intercourse, voluntery coursing greviouse hurt and intimidation to thirteen number of his class pupils.

According to the charges the offence is purnishable under section 285 and section 19 sub section 2 of the penal code .

When the thirteen count charges was read to him by presiding senior magistrate Hajiya Sta’adatu Gambo”he said is not true”at this point, the police prosecutor Abdullahi Mayaki requested the court to remand him in correctional facility on the ground that investigation into the case has just commence “grating him bail at this stage will jeopardize the police investigation and likely hood of commiting similar offence,I objected to his bail”.

The defense counsel Barrister Aliyu Shuibu pray the court to Grant him bail on the ground that he is presumed innocent on the case he was been alleged and that his client is a HIV patient and on drugs, assuring that if granted bail he will provide a reasonable suitee and shall produce him at any of the proceeding of the court.

The Presiding Senior Magistrate overruled the bail application and ordered for his remand at the Minna correctional center and adjourned to 20 Oct 2021 for hearing.
