With deep sorrow, we mourn the passing of His Excellency, Alhaji Ibrahim Idris (Ibro), former Governor of Kogi State.
Alhaji Ibrahim Idris was a leader who will be remembered as one of the architects of modern Kogi State.
Born in 1949 in Idah, he rose from a successful business background to become the Executive Governor of Kogi State from 2003 to 2012, serving two terms that many Kogites still recall for:
Infrastructure Drive* – Expansion of Lokoja township roads, construction of Greater Lokoja Water works pumping clean drinking water to households in metropolis and environs. Constructed rural electrification and made great efforts to open up the state capital.
Known widely as “Ibro” , his politics was open-door and grassroots centric.
Civil Service Stability* – He is remembered for regular payment of salaries and welfare-focused governance.
Unity* – In a diverse state, he worked hard to maintain balance and peaceful coexistence among the three senatorial districts.
He was a devout Muslim, a devoted family man, a philanthropist and a bridge-builder who remained relevant and respected long after leaving office as an elder statesman.
Legacy
For many people in Kogi, Alhaji Ibrahim Idris represented an era of calm, accessibility and fatherly leadership. He believed in dialogue over confrontation, and in development that touches the ordinary person.
His death, if confirmed, is not just a loss to his immediate family in Idah, and IFE of Omala but to the entire Kogi State and to Nigeria’s democratic journey.
